With the Artificial Intelligence (AI) threat looming large over various sectors, employees are facing a critical period in their workplaces. Amidst the crisis, the CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Matt Garman, has an advice for the future job seekers. Reportedly, he advised the youth, including his own children, about developing a different skill set that could help them in the AI age.
Garman said that the youth should have excellent soft skills to tide over crisis in the AI era. He stressed that students should develop critical thinking skills, irrespective of the subject they pursue. He said that critical thinking is actually going to be the most vital skill in the future. In addition, he also stressed on two other soft skills, adaptability and communication. “Soft skills are important today and will continue to remain important, if not more important in the future.”
Speaking to an English news publication, Garman said that critical thinking is the biggest key to success in the AI-dominated world. The main goal of job seekers should be to excel at tasks that can’t be replicated by AI. There are a few areas that AI can’t handle. It might be good at administrative work, but would struggle with critical thinking, creative problem-solving and nuanced decision-making, according to a few studies.
Many of the customers would want to interact with a person and get insights and attention from a human being. Such skills will continue to be super important for a long time, he opined.
Surprisingly, Zoho Corp’s AI Research chief Ramprakash Ramamoorthy also emphasized that reasoning and critical thinking will give the humans an edge over AI and Large Language Models.
AI will continue to be utilized at workplaces and job roles will have to evolve, just like when the internet came in. But human strengths in reasoning and critical thinking will remain essential for a long period, he said in an interview by a news agency.
