Police are investigating four shootings across Houston, two deadly and one that left a 70-year-old man critically injured after a robbery outside Walmart.
HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating a series of shootings overnight that left two people dead and several others injured across the city.
Officials said there were at least four separate shootings, two of them deadly, including two that happened less than a mile apart on Houston’s south side. Investigators said they are still searching for suspects in all of the cases.
Spring Branch: Elderly man robbed and shot outside Walmart
In west Houston, police said a 70-year-old man was approached by a masked suspect in the parking lot of a Walmart near Westview and Beltway 8. The man was forced at gunpoint to withdraw cash from an ATM before being shot.
After the suspect took the money and ran, the victim managed to drive away from the parking lot but didn’t make it far before losing consciousness along the Katy Freeway feeder road near Taste of Texas.
Lt. Horelica with the Houston Police Department said a tow truck driver may have saved the victim’s life.
“A wrecker driver happened to pull up and see and he, you know, did his own little investigation and found the elderly male was shot in the car,” he said. “He called 911 and we responded along with the Houston Fire Department. They transported him to a local area hospital where he’s currently undergoing treatment and is in critical condition.”
Police say there could be more than one suspect involved.

Shooting on Heatherbloom Drive
In another incident, police said two men opened fire on each other on Heatherbloom Drive near Orem and Post Oak just after 10 p.m. Monday.
When officers arrived, they found one man who had been shot multiple times and rushed him to the hospital. The other shooter got away in a white SUV, according to police.
Two deadly shootings less than a mile apart
Police also responded to two deadly shootings on the south side.
The most recent happened around 9:30 p.m. on Sunflower Street near Bellfort and Cullen. Officers said they arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound as firefighters provided medical care. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
About 30 minutes earlier, less than a mile south, another man was killed in a separate shooting on Clover Street near Cullen and Reed Road. Police said paramedics tried to save him, but he died at the scene. Investigators said the man was a handyman who lived in the garage of the home.
Ongoing investigation
Police are still piecing together what led up to each of the shootings.
