SAN ANTONIO – An annual remembrance ceremony at Fort Sam Houston to honor those who served almost didn’t happen this year.

The annual Veterans Day ceremony at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery will be hosted by Congressman Tony Gonzales to continue the long-standing tradition that pays tribute to military veterans.

Because of the government shutdown and lack of appropriated funds, the Department of Veterans Affairs was unable to arrange this year’s ceremony.

Congressman Gonzales decided to take action and sponsor the event to ensure it takes place and honors San Antonio’s military and veteran community.

This is the second time Gonzales has stepped in. Back in 2024, the VA had also announced the Veterans Day event was canceled, but the congressman led outreach efforts to reverse that decision and resume the ceremony.

For those who wish to attend, the Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

The event is open to the public.
