A motorcyclist was killed early Tuesday along Beltway 8 near Highway 249 after being hit by a vehicle that failed to stop in time, deputies say.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A motorcyclist is dead after a crash early Tuesday morning along the North Sam Houston Parkway West, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Bondurant with HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division said deputies were called around 2:40 a.m. to the intersection of Beltway 8 and Highway 249. When they arrived, they found the rider of a motorcycle on the ground with no signs of life.
“Our patrol division received a call for a two-vehicle major crash here in the 6100 block of the North Sam Houston Parkway West,” Sgt. Bondurant said. “They got out here and found the operator of a motorcycle on the ground, with no signs of life.”
He said the driver of the vehicle that hit the motorcycle suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
According to Sgt. Bondurant, preliminary findings show the Honda motorcycle was stopped on the eastbound feeder road when a vehicle traveling behind it failed to control speed and hit the back of the bike. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from the motorcycle and die at the scene.
“The driver of the vehicle that struck the motorcycle was not intoxicated and is cooperating with the investigation,” Sgt. Bondurant said. “We’ll do a full crash reconstruction of this incident and refer it to the DA’s office for criminal charges, if necessary.”
The eastbound Beltway 8 feeder road was temporarily closed as investigators worked the scene. Sgt. Bondurant said crews expected to reopen it by 6 a.m. Both the main lanes of Beltway 8 and Highway 249 remained open.
The investigation is ongoing.
