PHOENIX — Each month, KTAR News 92.3 FM honors donors who serve local charities by turning the Community Spotlight on them.
This month, the spotlight is shining on Trajan Wealth, which recently launched its ninth annual holiday season charity drive supporting the Sojourner Center, a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
The investment advisory company is currently collecting donations as part of the center’s annual Gifting Holiday Hope Program.
“We looked at a lot of the national charities, and believe it or not, they are overfunded,” Trajan Wealth Founder and CEO Jeff Junior told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News on Tuesday. “So, I wanted to look for a local charity, and Sojourner Center is one of those local charities, and our impact and our giving makes such a difference in the lives of the people that we’re able to help.”
Why does Trajan Wealth support the Sojourner Center?
Junior decided to make the Sojourner Center the beneficiary of the holiday donation drive because he wanted to support the work the shelter is doing to cut down on the prevalence of domestic violence.
“It’s hard to imagine that approximately every hour a child witnesses domestic abuse here in Arizona,” he said. “And the unfortunate thing is they see that and believe it’s just normal and so they carry on that pattern. So when you do something to help with that, that’s what it’s all about.”
Junior added that the support doesn’t stop after the holidays.
“You’ve got all year. It doesn’t have to be before Christmas or a deadline. It can always go to the following year, as well,” he said.
How to support Trajan Wealth’s charity drive
Anyone wishing to take part in Trajan Wealth’s holiday season charity drive can drop off unwrapped gifts at any of the company’s four Valley offices by Nov. 28. The company will also accept donations at its golf tournament and donation drive at Camelback Golf Club on Dec. 3.
Additionally, donations can be made by purchasing an item from the Sojourner Center’s Amazon wish list or by dropping off the donation at the shelter’s resource center near 24th and Roosevelt streets in Phoenix. The resource center is open on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m.
Donations can also be scheduled by emailing donationcenter@sojournercenter.org.
The shelter has a full list of donations it is seeking this holiday season, including items for women, men, teens, children and pets, as well as household items.
Junior said that toys are the most common donation he sees every year, but things people need every day, such as clothing, bedsheets, shoes and socks, can make a huge difference in the lives of those at the Sojourner Center.
“It’s the 10- to 18-year-olds that really lack a lot of the gifts,” he said. “Not saying the games and the toys aren’t cool, but the daily necessities are a good thing to donate.”
We want to hear from you.
