Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #10
A brand-new Star Wars story has revealed a major Force feat from Kylo Ren (one that Darth Vader failed to do himself). As seen in the new Legacy of Vader series, set between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, Kylo Ren managed to achieve something his grandfather could only ever dream of.
In the new and canonical Legacy of Vader #10 by Charles Soule and Luke Ross, Kylo Ren is seeking to enter his grandfather’s vault hidden away within his Mustafar fortress. However, Kylo Ren admits that he’s been continually feeling the spirit of Luke Skywalker, observing Ren unseen ever since his uncle’s demise in The Last Jedi.
Entering a deep state of meditation in the Force to rid himself of Luke’s presence, it’s now been revealed that Kylo Ren remarkably made contact with the beyond, something Darth Vader failed to do during his first days as a Sith Lord.

As seen in Marvel’s canonical 2017 Darth Vader series (also by Charles Soule), Darth Vader similarly attempted to reach the beyond and to commune with his late wife shortly after the events of Revenge of the Sith and his fall to the dark side.
Despite using the full power of his fortress to amplify his abilities and tapping into a locus of dark side energy underneath the structure, the very most Vader could achieve was a dark vision full of haunting fragments. Vader failed, both in his desire to speak with Padmé Amidala’s true spirit and to bring her back to the physical realm.
Vader tried more than once to bring Padmé back using the dark side, as seen in the VR game Vader Immortal. Likewise, the newly released novel Master of Evil by Adam Christopher is set to further explore Vader’s efforts to command the powers of life and death, though it’s already known that the Dark Lord was never able to reach his wife.
Kylo Ren Accessed The Netherworld of the Force (Before Rise of Skywalker)

Conversely, Legacy of Vader #10 sees Kylo Ren reaching the Netherworld of the Force, interacting with Luke Skywalker’s Force ghost while seeing the spirits of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Master Yoda as well. This is the cosmic Force nexus where these spirits reside when they’re not accessing the physical realm.
Notably, Kylo Ren accessing this Force realm is not supposed to be possible for him or any other being fully steeped in the dark side’s power (explaining Darth Vader’s aforementioned failures). However, Kylo Ren’s new feat further confirms the truth about his status in the Force, even before Rise of Skywalker:
The pull of the light was still strong within Ben Solo, resulting in Kylo Ren embodying more of a true balance in his attempt to reach Luke’s spirit (even if it’s one he’s yet to embrace). Overall, it’s quite a remarkable Star Wars moment, perfectly foreshadowing Ben Solo’s future redemption while also allowing the young man to finally succeed where his grandfather had failed.
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #10 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.

The son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, Ben was manipulated by Palpatine through the Force for most of his life, influenced toward the dark side of the Force. A misstep by Luke Skywalker ultimately left Ben feeling he had no choice but to embrace the dark side, and he became Kylo Ren, a key figure in the First Order. Kylo Ren’s heart remained deeply divided, however, even after he ascended to become Supreme Leader of the First Order. He was ultimately redeemed by Rey, with whom he shared a remarkable Force bond, and by the love of his parents.

Conceived by the will of the Force itself, Anakin Skywalker was the prophesied Chosen One, destined to bring the Force into balance. Anakin struggled to balance competing attachments to the Jedi Order and his wife Padmé Amidala, and ultimately fell to the dark side, becoming Darth Vader. For years he served as Palpatine’s right hand man, but he was ultimately redeemed by the faith of his son, Luke Skywalker. Now a Force Ghost, Anakin continues to act as an agent of balance.
