In many cases of a regime change in sports, it can be difficult to pinpoint the one specific move where things went wrong.

In the case of Nico Harrison and the Dallas Mavericks, not so much.

Harrison’s four-season tenure with the Mavericks came to an end on Tuesday, the team dismissing its general manager nine months after the failed experiment that was the Luka Doncic trade.

One of the most bizarre aspects of the Mavs’ nine-month nightmare: Harrison was widely believed to be an asset as a GM up until the Doncic trade. Several of his major moves worked out — up until the trade of the player it was all built around. The Mavericks have won just 17 out of 46 games played since.
