The Ladies of the Altar Society of St. Patrick Church will hold their annual Christmas Boutique and Bake Sale from noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 22 and 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at 3821 Adams St. Homemade quilts, unique holiday gifts, crocheted items, retired Department 56 Dickens Christmas Village items and succulents are among the items that will be sold. Lightscape opens at botanic garden

Kiwanis Club holds Fishing Derby
The Kiwanis Escondido Charity Fishing Derby starts at 6 a.m. Nov. 22-23 at Dixon Lake. The family-friendly event typically draws more than 2,000 people. Dixon Lake is scheduled to be newly stocked with 4,500 pounds of rainbow trout before the event. There will be prizes for adults and juniors for catching the biggest fish. A free kiddie pond will be guided by senior anglers to help kids catch their first fish. Proceeds go toward supporting schoolchildren of Escondido. Lifelong learning group holds free lectures

City seeks commission members
The city of Vista is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the Planning Commission and Homelessness Commission. The Planning Commission reviews development proposals and makes recommendations on land use, zoning and community growth. The Homelessness Commission advises the City Council on strategies and initiatives to address homelessness in Vista. Applicants must be Vista residents age 18 or older.
