The West Shore RCMP says a 35-year-old man was arrested for assaulting and seriously injuring a middle school student on school grounds in Langford on Thursday morning.
Police say they were called to Spencer Middle School for a report of an assault outside the school but on school property.
Mounties say frontline and school liaison officers “attended the school within minutes of the call” and learned that a man had entered onto school property and assaulted a male student, leaving them with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect then fled the school before officers arrived.
The man was later found and arrested and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Nov. 14, according to RCMP.
Mounties say they believe the suspect and victim “have no relation to each other” – though police also say they believe the assault was an “isolated and targeted incident,” with no further risk to students or staff.
“The investigation is ongoing and police are not releasing any further details at this time,” said RCMP.
