Paramount+ has announced that a popular series will soon come to an end.

The upcoming second season of “Tales of the Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles” will be its last. The new episodes are slated to premiere in December, although an exact release date has not been announced.

“Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” premiered in August 2024. The animated series is a spinoff of the 2023 film “Mutant Mayhem.” The voice cast includes Micah Abbey (Donatello), Shamon Brown Jr. (Michelangelo), Nicolas Cantu (Leonardo), Brady Noon (Raphael) and Ayo Edebiri (April O’Neil).

Paramount+ announced the cancelations of “Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and the animated series “Dora” at the same time. A premiere date for the upcoming fourth season of “Dora” has not been confirmed. Season 5 has also been produced, but it’s unclear if the final season will air on Paramount+.

According to Deadline, Paramount is exploring third-party licensing opportunities for both “Ninja Turtles” and “Dora,” meaning they could eventually end up on a platform like Netflix.

The cancelations come after a major round of Paramount layoffs last month. In an recent internal memo obtained by Deadline, Paramount’s chair of TV Media, George Cheeks, said the company’s “cable brands” will begin focusing on “a more curated slate” to “amplify what resonates most” with viewers.

“That means leaning into franchises like SpongeBob, PAW Patrol, RuPaul’s Drag Race, South Park, Ms. Pat and The Daily Show, while continuing to develop new IP across our studios and seeking new ways to amplify and connect with audiences,” Cheeks explained.

“Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Dora” are both Nickelodeon Animation Studio productions, which is owned by Paramount Skydance.

While Cheeks didn’t include “Ninja Turtles” or “Dora” in his list of priorities, the brands are both Nickelodeon staples. Nickelodeon acquired the global rights to the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” franchise in 2009, and “Dora the Explorer” has been a Nickelodeon show from the start. The children’s series originally aired on the network from 2000 to 2014.

“Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Dora” are available to stream on Paramount+.
