CHICAGO (WLS) — This weekend, there are more food giveaways as people wait for their full SNAP benefits to be restored after the end to the longest federal government shutdown in history.
Those recipients are expected to get full payments by Thursday, but for now, a food giveaway is happening at Austin’s Aspire Center for Workforce Innovation at 9 a.m. Saturday.

While the state has assured the nearly 2 million people that rely on SNAP in Illinois that they will get a full payment this coming week, there is still so much need. People still need to get food on the table while they await their benefits.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository is helping meet that need by hosting nine emergency food distribution events across the area on Saturday.
