Re “Stop signs installed where sixth-grader was fatally struck by car in San Carlos” (Oct. 30): More stop signs, lower speed limits and fewer lanes will do no good unless the existing traffic laws are strictly enforced. Today, they are not. Every day, I see cars blowing through stop signs, speeding and running red lights.

I cannot remember the last time I saw a traffic cop on the street. Scofflaws know this and ignore the law. No enforcement equals noncompliance. Thanks, Mayor Gloria!
