No. 3 Texas A&M’s SEC Championship Game hopes are hanging by a thread as the Aggies trail 30-3 to unranked South Carolina at halftime. Texas A&M turned the ball over four times over the first 30 minutes, which allowed South Carolina to open its sizable lead inside Kyle Field.

South Carolina’s defense has stifled Texas A&M and Heisman hopeful quarterback Marcel Reed. The Gamecocks forced Reed to play the worst half of his career, as he completed just six of his 19 pass attempts for 141 yards and three interceptions, including a pick thrown with less than a minute to play in the second quarter.

The Gamecocks were able to score 10 points in the final minute of the first half thanks to Reed interceptions. Reed also had a bad throw in the red zone that was picked off by South Carolina defensive back Vicari Swain. The Gamecocks scored on an 80-yard touchdown strike between quarterback LaNorris Sellers and wide receiver Nyck Harbor one play after that to take a 27-3 lead.

South Carolina turned Reed’s third interception — which also went to Swain — into a 35-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter. While Texas A&M’s offense has struggled, South Carolina’s has hit on a couple of explosive plays in the passing game.

Gamecock quarterback LaNorris Sellers had two touchdowns passing that covered at least 50 yards, including the catch-and-run from Harbor. South Carolina also holds a distinct advantage on the ground, as the Gamecocks have 108 yards rushing as a team to Texas A&M’s -9.
