New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical but stable condition after being shot in Midtown Manhattan on Sunday.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed a 29-year-old was wounded in a shooting, but did not identify Boyd as the person who was shot. The New York Post first reported that the Jets cornerback was shot. The Jets said in a statement that the team is “aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

The shooting was reported around 2 a.m. Sunday on West 38th Street at an address listed for Sei Less restaurant, according to an NYPD spokesperson. Police said the victim sustained a wound to the abdomen and was transported by emergency services to Bellevue Hospital.

There have been no arrests, and an investigation is underway, per the NYPD. Police reopened West 38th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway to vehicle and foot traffic around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The street had been closed following the shooting.

The team is not playing Sunday, after losing to the New England Patriots on Thursday.

Boyd, who has been on injured reserve since sustaining an injury in training camp, signed a one-year deal with the Jets in March. He previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.

New York City mayor Eric Adams wrote in a post on X on Sunday that he is praying for Boyd and his loved ones.

“Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence,” the post said. “Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic.”

Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson also posted on X on Sunday, asking for “prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
