We’re now looking at the third section of the document, which outlines plans to introduce a capped number of places available for refugees arriving in the UK through new legal routes.

She sets out these places will be for people arriving in the UK as the “first, safe haven they encounter”.

The cap will depend on capacity within communities, she says, stressing there will be “full security checks and controls”.

One route will be through sponsorship by community groups and charities.

There will also be specific doors opened to “talented refugees” to allow them to continue studying or working.

Successful refugees arriving via these new routes will have a ten-year minimum stay before settlement.

We’re soon going to be hearing Mahmood outline these plans in full when she delivers a statement in the Commons.
