Not even the Landman cast was immune to the magic Sam Elliott brought to set for season 2.
The iconic actor, 81, joins season 2 of the hit Taylor Sheridan series about oil tycoons in Texas as the father of Billy Bob Thornton‘s character Tommy Norris, and Kayla Wallace was completely overwhelmed with emotion the first time she saw Elliott onscreen in the new season.
“I was sobbing on my living room floor,” Wallace, 32, tells PEOPLE of watching the first two episodes of Landman’s second season, which kicked off on Sunday, Nov. 16. “He’s got a way that he brings [the tears] out of you. It’s heartbreaking.”
She teases, “I can’t wait for people to see where that storyline goes.”
Elliott plays T.L. in season 2, and fans got a taste of his character in the premiere episode, as they learned that he’s living in an assisted living facility in Texas, and his wife, Dorothy, Tommy’s mother, just died. Wallace says that watching Elliott and Thornton, 70, on-camera together was “so cool,” as the actors “go way back.”

Elliott was a particularly involved cast member, the When Calls the Heart star adds, as she reveals he “never” left the set, even when he was done with his scenes.
“It’s really cool — even if he’s not in a scene, he shows up early to set, he’ll find a place to sit — a bench, an apple box, whatever. He’s not fussy,” she says. “He’s just happy to sit there and be a part of it and watch all of us perform.”
Elliott is not the only powerhouse with a larger role in the new episodes. Demi Moore, who was in season 1 in a smaller capacity, has an expanded storyline in season 2 after the death of her on-screen husband, played by Jon Hamm, and Wallace teases that her character, hotshot attorney Rebecca Falcone, gets to work alongside Moore’s Cami this season.
“This season, I got to share some scenes with Demi, and it was such a dream come true,” Wallace told PEOPLE at the season 2 premiere in New York City. “She’s awesome. It’s wonderful. I can’t wait for people to see season 2.”

In the season 1 finale, Monty (Hamm) named Rebecca vice president of exploration at M-Tex before he died, and in season 2, she’s settling into the new position, which is what brings her and Cami together.

Playing such a self-assured, confident woman — one who, as Wallace puts it, “struts into a room” with what director Stephen Kay has deemed “the b—- walk” — has rubbed off on the actress.
Wallace says she pulls from Rebecca’s confidence “when I need to channel her.”
“I’m not confrontational in real life at all,” she says. “So yeah, getting her confidence has been helpful in certain situations. But I’m still me.”
