ELON – It was a winning weekend for Elon athletics as the men’s soccer team earned its first-ever CAA Championship on Sunday, defeating Stony Brook at Rudd Field 3-0.

Up ahead, the Phoenix will compete in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday with a trip to UNCG..

Each Monday, Rising Phoenix will preview the week ahead in Elon athletics. Here is a look at each Elon team competing this week.

Men’s Soccer

After winning the regular season conference championship in both 2022 and 2024, the Elon University men’s soccer team has won its first-ever CAA Championship over Stony Brook 3-0. Goalkeeper Jackson Leavitt earned his 11th clean sheet of the season and was named to the All-Tournament team, alongside Dominik Renz and Charlie Kitch. Martin Kozak, who scored the third goal for the Phoenix, was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Elon will compete in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, taking on UNCG in the opening round in Greensboro.

Men’s Basketball

The Elon University men’s basketball team defeated Gardner-Webb on Saturday 95-84, led by Chandler Cuthrell’s career-high 29 points and team-high eight rebounds. Cuthrell was followed by Randall Pettus II, who scored 21 points and had a team-high three steals. Elon will travel to Coral Gables, Florida, to face Miami on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Football

Down to the last minute of play and tied 24-24 with Campbell, quarterback Landen Clark threw a 96-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Fuhrmann to give the Phoenix a 31-24 win. Clark had four total touchdowns, two rushing and two passing, with a total of 228 passing yards. Tony Hart III and Asher Cunningham both accounted for a team-high 11 tackles. Elon will face North Carolina A&T at Rhodes Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the team’s final regular season game.
