A new book is pulling back the curtain on some of Broadway’s most storied theaters.
“History Hiding Around Broadway” reveals the hidden stories, ghosts and backstage secrets tucked inside New York’s historic venues.
Written by longtime dresser and Broadway tour guide Teale Dvornik, the book blends historical research with her backstage experience on shows like “Wicked” and “Aladdin.”
One chapter recounts the legend of Olive Thomas, whose ghost is said to haunt the New Amsterdam Theatre.
Dvornik said she set out to capture the magic that keeps audiences returning to live theater.
“I love Broadway because it’s just pure magic. It’s a bunch of people sitting in a room accepting the willing suspension of disbelief,” she said. “They’re all in there experiencing this magical thing that may never be the same ever again, every performance is a little bit different from the other. It’s live theater, it’s live art—there’s just nothing like it in the world.”
