PHOENIX – A storm system arrived in metro Phoenix early Tuesday, producing moderate to heavy rainfall with the potential for flooding in the West Valley.
The precipitation left some roadways wet as commuters started heading to work.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood advisory for western Maricopa County after half an inch of rain fell overnight and another half to 1 inch was expected throughout the morning.
The advisory covers a portion of the West Valley that includes Surprise, Buckeye, Wickenburg, Circle City, Wittmann and Morristown. It was scheduled to expire at 8 a.m.
Additionally, NWS activated a flash flood warning for an area that includes the Palo Verde Nuclear Generation Station, Wintersburg and Painted Rock Dam. It also was set to expire at 8 a.m.
The NWS issues advisories when minor flooding is expected or happening. A warning is for more severe conditions, indicating that flash flooding is imminent or occurring.
The storm system is expected to produce on-and-off rain across the Valley through Wednesday.
