San Antonians have a new reason to stream downtown. The Marriott San Antonio Riverwalk (898 E Market St.) has debuted a new in-house restaurant, Current & Craft, serving Gulf Coast-inspired fare from Southern-fried favorites to Texas-Asian fusion dishes.

The Texas Gulf Coast is one of the most diverse food regions in the United States. In addition to land-based Southern and German fare, it encompasses seafood traditions from Indigenous, Caribbean, and Asian immigrant communities. Current & Craft aims to bring the entirety of Gulf Coast gastronomy together in one place.

“Current & Craft is all about connection between our guests, our city, and the Gulf,” said Senior Sous Chef Elizabeth Martinez, via a release. “We wanted to create a space that feels both familiar and surprising, where every dish tells a story about where we come from.”

Guests can order lump crab queso and pull-apart crab cake sliders, paired with contemporary Southern dishes like smoked pork belly bites. Signature main courses include the Gulf Haus shrimp boil, paired with Hefeweizen garlic butter or spicy Viet-Cajun sauce, and pan-seared Ōra King salmon. Dessert highlights range from key lime pie with mezcal cream to a fancy ice cream sundae.

Current & Craft takes over the former home of Born & Raised Bar, replacing the sports bar atmosphere with a modernized interior restaurant while keeping the stunning San Antonio River views. Although not explicitly a bar, the new spot has a full beverage program with wine, Texas craft beers, and cocktails like a spicy mango margarita, a maple-pecan old-fashioned, and a Blue Hive Breeze.

Chef Martinez is part of a team that also includes Director of Food and Beverage Matt St. Amand and Executive Sous Chef Benjamin Annotti. Annotti previewed some of the crab cake sliders on Instagram in October.

Marriott San Antonio Riverwalk is the latest downtown hotel to amp up its food and beverage offerings as new properties like The Monarch crowd the market. Among the more notable 2025 additions this year are Jots and the Keystone Club at the Gunter Hotel, Anacacho at St. Anthony, and Moda Fare at St. Anthony.
