Kroger is closing three facilities, bringing major changes to the grocery chain’s presence in Florida.

While there are no physical Kroger locations in Florida, it does have a fulfillment center, through which Florida residents can order groceries and have them delivered. A Tuesday announcement about closures included the end of its fulfillment center in Groveland, and subsequently the delivery program available throughout Florida.

Here’s what you should know about Kroger closing three facilities.

What is Kroger closing?

“Following a comprehensive review, Kroger identified opportunities to optimize its fulfillment network by closing facilities” in the Frederick, Maryland; Groveland, Florida; and Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, the company announced.

As a result, Florida “spoke facilities,” including one in Jacksonville, will also close, ending grocery delivery in the state.

Kroger said the three robotic warehouses, also called fulfillment centers, including the one in Florida, will close in January.

Kroger has 1,238 grocery stores in 16 states, but Florida is not one of them.

Why did Kroger close its fulfillment centers?

In its announcement on the closures, Kroger said updates to its eCommerce plan should be “a differentiated and simplified customer experience, new households shopping at Kroger and immediate eCommerce profitability improvements.”

The company “expects to improve eCommerce profitability by approximately $400 million in 2026.”

As of November 2025,  eight of Kroger’s robotic warehouses, or customer fulfilment centers, had gone live. Three are now slated for closure.

Will Kroger close more fulfillment centers?

Kroger said it will be “monitoring the remaining facilities’ performance.”

“In geographies where Kroger sees higher density of demand, the company will continue to take advantage of automated customer fulfillment to increase customer engagement, capacity and improve productivity and profitability.”
