MSU graduate launches career at aerospace company in Houston

  • November 18, 2025

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Archer City native Alysson Warren, who graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science summa cum laude, is continuing her already impressive career and earning the Gold Bear Award for her work at Barrios Technology, an aerospace company in Houston.

Warren originally applied for an internship at Barrios Technology before her senior year at MSU. She says that the experience was incredibly valuable to her.

“The Barrios internship was an incredible experience throughout the entire summer that really valued and prioritized exposing college students to the aerospace industry,” Warren said. “One part of the experience that is offered is being able to visit and learn about the different areas of NASA while working in Houston. We got to see places like Mission Control and the Neutral Buoyancy Lab throughout the summer as part of the program. I got to meet and speak with people who were working on amazing systems and research while assisting with different projects. It is a genuinely great internship experience that has value beyond just working at a company throughout the summer.”

Kerrick Davis, Barrios Chief Strategy Officer and formerly a Texas Tech University System regent, expressed his hope that future MSU Texas students will also pursue the Barrios internship.

In her current position, Warren builds software integration and automation tools for Barrios and has shown initiative by introducing innovative methodologies, leading API integration efforts, and mentoring fellow developers, according to the organization. This culminated in her recent earning of the Gold Bear Award.

Warren said that her interest in computers and technology had started early; her interest took hold when she entered high school.

“I started programming since I was a freshman in high school and became very invested in the field right away,” Warren said. “Technology and math classes have always been my favorite subjects to learn about. I knew for a long time I wanted to work and build with computers, but I didn’t know where it would take me until toward the end of my college career.”

At MSU Texas, her favorite classes included operations research in the mathematics department, human computer interaction, and spatial databases in the computer science department.

The college also provided mentors for her and a host of great memories, she says, including her study abroad time in London.

“It was an incredible experience I still think about often. Getting to visit Bletchley Park in London, which holds a lot of historical significance in the technical world, had a huge impact on me,” she said.

She expressed her appreciation for MSU Texas professors Jeff Hood, Catherine Stringfellow, Terry Griffin, Mika Morgan, Tina Johnson, and Nelson Passos.

Before Professor Mika Morgan taught computer science at MSU, she taught high school computer science, and Warren credits her in creating and supporting many of her fondest memories from when she was starting out in the field.

Coming from a small town in Texas, having that encouragement and connection made the experience deeply meaningful, and by the time I graduated and started attending MSU Texas, I had gained a lot of core skills that helped me expand my career beyond what I had ever expected it to be. She joined the MSU computer science department’s staff at the beginning of my junior year and continued to be someone I relied on. Her guidance shaped much of my life today.
