SAN ANTONIO – A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested after allegedly attacking a woman he was supposedly in a relationship.

On Tuesday, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 36-year-old Sheriff’s Deputy Corporal Jonatan Amaya, who has been charged with Assault Family/House Member with Impede Breath/Circulation and Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance.

On November 16, Amaya allegedly arrived at the residence of the victim, who is a civilian employee with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim stated that the two began arguing about their relationship, and after the victim threatened to call the police if Amaya continued to refuse to leave, he allegedly grabbed the victim’s phone and threw it across the room.

At a certain point, the altercation became physical, with Amaya allegedly grabbing the victim by the arms, pushing her against the wall, and holding her down on the floor with his hand over her neck.

After investigators interviewed the victim, an arrest warrant was obtained for Jonatan Amaya, who was arrested while on duty.

“Our Public Integrity Unit did an outstanding job of acting swiftly in making this arrest and ensuring the safety of the victim. We will continue to act in the best interest of justice, regardless of who the perpetrator is.”

Amaya has since been released from jail on a $20,000 bond.
