Cockatoo Uses Dad’s Nap Time to Perfect Woodpecker Skills with No Regrets originally appeared on Parade Pets.
Being the favorite pet parent is the dream, but it can come with a cost. It means they’re always going to choose you to give them things, cuddle them, play with them, and be their constant everything, regardless of what you have going on.
Charlie the Cockatoo has chosen Dad as his #1 favorite human on the planet, and it’s a major privilege Dad doesn’t take lightly. But sometimes Charlie’s need for center stage coincides with Dad’s much-needed power nap, so the funny boy has a few ways to fix that.
In the world of Cockatoos, Charlie’s the one who knows his worth and won’t settle for less than all the attention, all the time. He doesn’t care how tired Dad might be, because it’s time to check off Charlie’s to-do list.
Patrolling, regurgitating breakfast, tucking Dad in, snuggling, massaging, staring, falling, and pruning are all fine, but it’s his dedication to perfecting the woodpecker skills that has me rolling!
With so much toddler energy, it makes you wonder what goes on in Charlie’s brain. Though many of his 182k TikTok followers joked Mom’s “the other woman,” it’s clear Charlie is only focused on one thing.
“I love how the final stages were just like ‘Wake up. now,'” one person wrote. “Wake TF up Dad,” another added. “The close stare at the end haha. ‘How dare you sleep right now, I had to entertain myself!'” another shared.

To fully appreciate why this big-feeling boy won’t let Dad sleep, you must know that this is one Parrot who not only adores the man but is low-key obsessed with him. The two have an incredibly strong bond that’s evident in nearly every video posted by @charliejuniorcockatoo.
Whether they’re chilling on the couch while Charlie offers a private lap dance or hanging out in the bedroom listening to music together, it does look like Mom’s the third wheel (sorry).
As long as Charlie’s around, Dad may just have to let quality sleep slide. Funny enough, Charlie gets 12 to 14 hours of solid snooze time every night, which is probably why he has SO much energy during the day!
So maybe that’s what Dad should do, too. Get on Charlie’s schedule or be prepared to get “woodpeckered” if he ever dares leave the excited Cockatoo to entertain himself for even a second! Its’s a small price to pay for being the favorite, amIright?
