The Harry Potter reboot is getting further into filming on season 1. One of fiction’s most famous wizards is getting reimagined for the small screen as the Harry Potter TV show is on its way, with HBO adapting the books for the world of television.
According to reports from Deadline, J.K. Rowling, creator of the Harry Potter franchise, has made her first visit to the set for the upcoming TV adaptation. Per sources, the author “inspected progress on the adaptation of her beloved fantasy franchise.”
The trade also added that one person had jokingly stated that “it was like receiving a royal visit,” as several senior members of the HBO production had reportedly cleared space in their schedules to welcome Rowling. At the time of this story’s publication, HBO did not comment to Deadline about Rowling’s Harry Potter set visit.
While Rowling herself hasn’t commented on visiting the production, the author is involved with the HBO series as an executive producer. The television reboot cast Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton as the iconic trinity, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively.
The Harry Potter cast has been shooting since mid-July, as each season will adapt one of the books, and aims to be more faithful and include elements that weren’t covered in the films. Francesca Gardiner has been tapped as the showrunner, with season 1 consisting of eight episodes.
HBO’s Harry Potter has remained controversial in light of Rowling being against transgender people and their rights. Despite her harmful comments against the transgender community, Warner Bros. and HBO are standing behind the author’s participation in the live-action remake.
Daniel Radcliffe, who brought the iconic protagonist to life in the original Harry Potter movies, revealed to Good Morning America on November 18 that he recently reached out to McLaughlin to show his support for the young star. The actor shared the following:
I wouldn’t say that anyone who is going to play Harry has to [reach out]. I know a few people who are working on the production, so I wrote to Dominic and I sent him a letter, and he sent me a very sweet note back. I just wanted to write to him to say, ‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time. And I do, I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them. They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh it’s crazy I was doing that.’ But it’s also incredibly sweet and I hope they’re having a great time.
While HBO is set to air Harry Potter in 2027, the exact premiere date has not been revealed yet.
