Due to the overwhelming interest from Fort Worth residents in serving on the new Fort Worth ISD board of managers, the Texas Education Agency has announced an extension of the application deadline.
NBC 5 has learned that 180 applications have been submitted but another 800 are currently in progress.
Of the 180 completed applications, most applicants are from the district or live within the Fort Worth ISD boundaries.
With hundreds showing interest, the TEA has extended the application deadline.
There are only 9 positions available for the new board.
The district’s new conservator, Chris Roszowski, attended his first board meeting Tuesday evening. He will oversee the current board in their final days on the job. The board voted 7-1 to formally appeal the decision to take over the district, with Kevin Lynch voting not to fight back against the takeover.
Once the new board is chosen, they will replace current members, unless that appeal goes through.
Applications to sit on the new board of managers are available until Dec.1 on TEA’s website.
