The CEO of Metrolinx shared video of the moment a train struck the rear end of a dump truck that was stopped on the tracks at Kennedy Road near Unionville GO

Metrolinx has shared video after one of its GO trains hit a dump truck that had been stopped on the tracks Thursday morning.

Michael Lindsay, the CEO of Metrolinx, posted the video on the social networking site LinkedIn.

Lindsay said the incident happened at around 8:37 a.m. along the tracks at Kennedy Road near Unionville GO station in Markham.

York police had issued road closures in the area shortly after the accident.

Lindsay said upon approaching the train crossing and seeing the dump truck stopped on the tracks, “the crew reacted immediately,” and sounded the horn and attempted to slow the train “as much as possible before impact.”

In the video, the horn can be heard three times before the collision. The train can then be seen colliding with the rear end of the dump truck which gets pushed out of the way by the impact.

No injuries were reported.

“Events like this are a powerful reminder that safety at crossings can never be taken for granted,” Lindsay wrote in his post.

He asked drivers to obey all signals and warning lights when approaching a train crossing and advised against entering a crossing unless you can fully clear it, and to never stop on the tracks.

GO Train service was temporarily impacted as a result of the crash.
