SAN ANTONIO – A school board has denied a grievance filed by an advocate who was arrested during an August board meeting.
At a meeting held around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the Edgewood Independent School District’s Board of Trustees voted to deny a grievance filed by Maribel Gardea.
Gardea had been removed from an Edgewood ISD board meeting held on Aug. 19, and was subsequently arrested for criminal trespass, disrupting a meeting or procession, and resisting arrest.
Those charges would be dropped less than one week later due to “insufficient evidence.”
Maribel Gardea said she had filed the grievance with the district “asking the Board for accountability and transparency” in the wake of her removal and detention.
On Nov. 19, Edgewood ISD released the following statement after voting to deny her grievance:
Ms. Gardea was removed from the August 19, 2025 meeting of the Edgewood ISD Board of Trustees for actions that were not in alignment with the EISD Board Operating Procedures and Code of Ethics. Her actions following the removal led to her arrest by Edgewood ISD Police Officers.
This is a developing story.
