Surprise Squad hands out gift cards to Phoenix shoppers ahead of Thanksgiving

  • November 21, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — As Thanksgiving approaches, kindness spread through the aisles of a Fry’s Food Store near North 30th St. and Thomas Rd.

With the help of Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad and Valley Toyota Dealers, Gibby Parra set out to bring a little relief—and a lot of joy—to shoppers getting ready for the holiday.

The first person he met was visiting from Georgia, wearing a shirt that read “Good Vibes.” Gibby took the message to heart, sharing some good vibes of his own with two $100 gift cards. “That’s how we do it in Arizona—how about that!”

In the meat department, Gibby found another shopper. Asked if money is hard to come by, the shopper agreed—and he presented her with $200 worth of gift cards to help make ends meet.

Moments later, he turned and discovered a third shopper. She, too, received $200 courtesy of Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad and Valley Toyota Dealers. Asked how that would help during the holiday season, she said she would give it to her daughters—a simple answer that spoke volumes about her generous nature.

Next, a Diamondbacks T-shirt caught Gibby’s eye.

“How would you like $200 to go into your Thanksgiving?”

“That would be awesome,” the man replied. “I really need that right now … I’ve got two kids at home, a wife, and my disabled parents living with us—so it’s pretty hard on us right now. Things like this never happen to me—I’m very grateful.”

Finally, among the shelves, Gibby spotted a Fry’s employee working to keep everything stocked and tidy. Asked if some extra money would help her out, she replied, “Yes, it will”—and it was one more smile in a morning full of them.

A few gift cards, a handful of quick conversations, and some shoppers filled with gratitude—just another happy ending from Arizona’s Family Surprise Squad and Valley Toyota Dealers.
