For the third straight year, Mizzou football has landed a commitment on the Fourth of July.
Three-star defensive back Tony Forney Jr. pledged to the Tigers on Friday, picking MU over Auburn, Georgia, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. He also held offers from other power conference schools such as Clemson, LSU and Texas A&M.
In 2023, wide receiver James Madison II and defensive back Cameron Keys pledged to MU. Last year, wide receiver Jayvan Boggs committed to the Tigers, although he eventually ended up at Florida State after decommitting from both Mizzou and UCF.
Forney joins nine other players in Mizzou’s 2026 recruiting class, and his commitment is the Tigers’ 10th overall in the class and seventh since June 1.
Forney took an official visit to MU on May 30. He also made official visits to Auburn, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh in June.
At Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia, Forney had a pair of interceptions last season for the Longhorns (tied for the most on the team), one of which he returned for a touchdown. In Georgia’s Class 4A state playoffs, Kell fell 42-35 in the second round to eventual state semifinalist Creekside on Nov. 22. Forney will look to bring Kell back to elite status, as its 7-5 record was its worst since 2021.
Forney is the second Georgia commit of Mizzou’s 2026 recruiting class. Three-star offensive lineman Brandon Anderson, who committed to the Tigers on Sunday, attends North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia.
