Dallas residents are once again sounding off about the high level of vehicular crime that is taking place across the city.
A Dallas resident posted on the Ring Neighborhood application earlier in the week to voice concerns about repeated crimes involving their vehicle, specifically questioning whether other residents have dealt with people stealing license plates.
“Anyone else have a license plate stolen off your car in the past few days?” a resident wrote.
Multiple other neighbors responded to this message, explaining that this has become a more common issue in recent years, with one resident commenting that the reduced number of paper plates has worsened the problem.
“With paper plates now eliminated criminals are now stealing metal plates more often. The problem is that people are using ordinary screws to attach plates which can be removed in seconds. I have since used Torx security screws, which require a special bit, and no one has yet messed with them…” wrote the neighbor.
Additionally, one resident posted that they had dealt with stolen plates a few months earlier, though nothing was accomplished by filing a report with the Dallas Police Department.
“I did a few months ago!! Made a police report but nothing really came of it,” wrote the neighbor.
Another resident commented under this post, saying it was because Dallas “lacks a real police department.”
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, many residents have expressed similar views, with posts on the Ring Neighborhood app lamenting the lack of assistance from the DPD.
This lack of help on reported crimes comes despite the city being required to hire more police officers under Proposition U, which was passed by city voters in 2024 and mandates a minimum number of sworn-in police officers.
Similarly, Proposition U requires the city to meet minimum requirements for police compensation, though it appears the city council has not fully complied with them.
