PHOENIX – The Valley got a chance to dry out Friday after four straight days with rain, but another wet weather system is on the horizon.
“Right now, as far as the Phoenix metro is concerned, we’re looking pretty clear. We’re just kind of clouded over. Most of the precipitation right now is in the western portion of our CWA (County Warning Area) over Yuma, Blythe along the Colorado River,” Alicia Ryan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Friday morning.
While there’s a small chance for light activity earlier, the Phoenix area is unlikely to see rain again until Saturday afternoon or evening.
And even then, widespread showers aren’t expected.
“The Phoenix metro, and more the eastern Phoenix metro into the higher terrains, might see more precipitation. But that quickly moves out of the area and then we’re just kind of drying back out. And then back to kind of regular, dry, tranquil weather,” Ryan said.
The latest NWS forecast calls for a high of 72 on Saturday, an upward tick during a stretch in the 60s, with partly sunny skies during the day and an 80% chance for rain later.
The chance for rain falls to 20% on Sunday, when temperatures are expected to drop back into the 60s.
Is there rain in the Phoenix forecast for Thanksgiving?
After that, it’s mostly clear skies through at least Thanksgiving Day, with a warming trend back to the normal range in the lower 70s.
Most of the Valley has received at least an inch of rain since the first in a series of storm systems arrived Monday night. The on-and-off activity included thunderstorms, hail and flooding in some areas.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the NWS uses for the city’s official readings, only saw 0.37 inches this week after picking up 0.08 inches on Thursday.
