CHICAGO (WLS) — Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and a local food rescue organization is ramping up its efforts to knock out hunger.
Fight2Feed is a local nonprofit in Chicago that saves unused, uncooked and prepared foods from being discarded at restaurants, grocery stores, and major conventions in the city, to feed more hungry people. They are 100 percent volunteer-driven, distributing prepared meals from their HQ to community partners all over Chicago and in three other counties in Chicagoland including Will, DuPage and Lake County. Those partners include other nonprofits that provide food, shelter and resources to the unhoused, under-resourced and immigrant communities.
Founded on March 20, 2014, in Chicago, IL, Fight2Feed started with a simple goal: create real change, one block at a time. Since then, the organization has served over two million meals and rescued more than six million pounds of food that might otherwise have gone to waste.
This holiday season, Fight2Feed is hoping to amplify their efforts to give back. They are calling for volunteers, specifically on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm through the holiday season. The hope is to feed thousands of people and make sure no one goes hungry.
