Peel police are investigating after a man was killed after suffering either gunshot or stabbing injuries in Brampton, Ont., on Saturday afternoon.
Peel police are searching for a suspect after a man was killed in Brampton on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to a call for a disturbance at a residence near Clearjoy Street and Southlake Boulevard, south of Bovaird Drive East, around 3:15 p.m.
Peel police media relations officer Acting Sgt. Tyler Bell said officers located a man in his 50s with traumatic injuries, and he was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
Bell said it is still undetermined whether the victim sustained gunshot injuries or stab wounds.
The homicide bureau has taken over the investigation.
Meanwhile, a suspect, believed to be in his mid-20s and wearing dark clothing, was seen fleeing the scene on foot.
“We don’t have a lot of information at the moment as it pertains to the suspect,” Bell said.
He confirmed that the suspect and the victim were known to each other.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident and there to be no broader safety concern for the public,” Bell said.
He noted that there is a man who lives in the residence who fits the description of the suspect, but investigators have not been able to confirm “beyond a doubt” that it’s the same person.
“The belief right now is that the person outstanding, the suspect, is associated with the address. Whether or not they live there full-time or have been known to visit, we’re not certain. That is definitely something we’re looking into right now,” Bell said.
When asked what his message to the suspect is, he said, “We’re looking for you and we’re not going to stop until we get you, and it won’t be long.”
