Two children and a woman were seriously injured and one man was dead after a confrontation turned violent in a store parking lot in south Phoenix, police said.
A passenger vehicle and a SUV pulled into the parking lot of the Lowe’s near 19th Avenue and Baseline Road, and an argument escalated, Phoenix police Sgt. Brian Bower said.
A physical fight led to gunfire, Bower said, with the man from the passenger vehicle shooting multiple rounds into the SUV.
The man who was in the SUV with a woman and two children was pronounced dead at the scene, Bower said.
The woman in the SUV was wounded, and the children were shot as rounds were fired into the back seat, Bower said.
A man was taken into custody after the shooting, which occurred about 2:45 p.m. Nov. 22. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation, Bower said.
Several shell casings lay on the pavement after the shooting.
Bower said it was not immediately known if the men knew one another or where, exactly, the incident started.
Investigators planned to review surveillance footage and interview eyewitnesses to try to gather more information. Bower said. Police were asking for any witnesses who might have left the shopping center to provide any information, photo or video they might have.
