Jacksonville Fire Department vehicle stolen during call, suspect in custody

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A person is in custody after a Jacksonville Fire Department vehicle was stolen during a call.

Saturday, just after 3 p.m., the Jacksonville Fire Department went to a structure fire at 413 Nelson Drive.

While fighting the fire, officials say a battalion command vehicle was taken from the scene. Soon, officials learned from Pender County dispatchers that a vehicle, identified as belonging to the Jacksonville Fire Department, had been recovered at 4635 NC Highway 50.

A person believed to be in connection with the stolen vehicle has been taken into custody. An investigation into the stolen vehicle is underway.

The original structure fire at 413 Nelson Drive was resolved with no injuries, according to officials.
