HOUSTON â Thousands of patriotic Houstonians flooded downtown Houston on Friday night for the cityâs signature Independence Day celebration, âFreedom Over Texas.â
The annual event at Eleanor Tinsley Park drew an estimated 50,000 attendees who gathered along Allen Parkway to enjoy live entertainment, local food vendors, and a spectacular fireworks display against the downtown Houston skyline.
Country music star Lee Brice headlined the event, performing on the Freedom Stage as the eveningâs main musical attraction.
âBeing with my family and having a good night, itâs Fourth of July. Iâm proud to be in the United States and be part of this big thing,â said Grenado, whoâs attending âFreedom Over Texasâ for the first time.
Food vendors lined Allen Parkway, with the traditional turkey legs, Texas BBQ and everything in between.
âThatâs everybodyâs favorite,â said local attendee Francesca Blazer, highlighting the enduring appeal of this festival staple.
The celebration offered numerous options for attendees to cool down and enjoy refreshments, particularly welcome during Houstonâs characteristic summer evening heat and humidity.
The evening culminated in a 20-minute fireworks show that illuminated the Houston skyline, providing a fitting finale to the Independence Day festivities.
