COPPELL – Shirley Anne Avina , age 88, of Coppell, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation: 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite A, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Funeral Service: 12 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107; followed by interment in Greenwood Memorial Park. Shirley was born on August 20, 1937, in Ransom, Kentucky, to Homer and Anna Wolford. In school, Shirley was a drum majorette, and in 1955 she graduated from Burch High School in Delbarton, West Virginia. She was married to her forever love, John Avina, and they recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. She retired from Phillips Petroleum as a human resources manager. She and her husband John started a marketing research firm and enjoyed many years of success. She also loved to play Texas Hold ‘Em-to everyone’s dismay. Shirley was a woman of incredible strength, grace, and boundless love. Her warmth and wisdom shaped three generations of her family while touching the hearts of everyone she met. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Anna Wolford; sisters, Doris Farley and Pauline Ball; brother, Robert Wolford; son, John Avina III; and in-laws, Johnny and Jessie Avina and Helen Sides. Shirley is survived by her husband, John Avina Jr., and Alfie; daughter, Kathy Kloetzli and her husband, Steve Kloetzli; son, Michael Avina and Wendy; and niece, Angela Kuhn. Granddaughters include Jamie Lund, Samantha Nungaray, Melinda Denton and her husband, Jason Denton, Adrian Fraser, and Haleigh Martin. Great-grandchildren include Tatiana Campbell, Noah Denton, Gavin Fraser, Juliana Nungaray, Madyson Lund, and Elizabeth Denton. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Ricky Avina; and sisters-in-law, Linda Silva, Sally Pereda, Christina Castillo, Connie Cervantes, and Terry Avina.
