Jacksonville Jaguars Week 12 keys to victory vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Florida Times-Union gives you the Jacksonville Jaguars’ keys to victory over the Cardinals this weekend.

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange is set to make his return to play today against the Arizona Cardinals.

Strange has missed the last five games for Jacksonville after sustaining a hip injury against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. He was activated from the team’s designated-to-return/injured reserve list on Saturday ahead of the league’s 4 p.m. deadline.

Strange’s activation gives Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence another reliable target in the passing game, while also adding premier run blocking prowess that was shown off during the first several games of the season.

Before being placed on IR, Strange accounted for 20 catches for 204 yards. He was among the team’s most-targetted players and saw his best game come in Week 3 against the Houston Texans, where he caught six of seven targets for 61 yards. Lawrence spoke to Strange’s importance a couple of weeks ago.

“He is a big part of our offense and obviously we haven’t had him the last month or so. So, I’m just excited to get him back, whether that’s this week or whenever, obviously want to do what’s best for him and make sure he is ready to go when he does come back,” Lawrence said.

“But yeah, obviously I’m hoping that’s sooner rather than later because I think it’s no secret how important he is to our offense and what he can do run game, pass game, just how versatile he is.”

The Jaguars have struggled with the tight end position this year due to injuries to both Strange and Hunter Long. Long will miss his second-straight game later today against Arizona after sustaining a knee/hip injury against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.

In addition to activating Strange, the Jaguars elevated two players from the team’s practice squad to its active roster for the game against Arizona. Defensive lineman Matt Dickerson and defensive back Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig were the players elevated. Dickerson was elevated last year, too.

This will mark Silmon-Craig’s first game being activated. He signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado.
