CHICAGO (WLS) — Two people were killed early Sunday morning in a crash on South DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police said.

A 33-year-old man was driving a Kia sedan south in the 3900-block of DLSD just before 4:30 a.m., when the Kia hit a Chevy sedan with two people inside near Oakwood Boulevard, police said.

The two in the Chevy died on the scene, police said.

The 33-year-old man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he remains stable. The passenger in his car was also taken to U of C and remains stable.

All lanes of southbound DLSD are closed in the area, as police investigate.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. One appeared to be charred.

Southbound No. 6 CTA Jackson Park Express and J14 Jeffery Jump buses are temporarily rerouted via DuSable Lake Shore Drive, 39th Street, Cottage Grove Avenue, 47th Street and DuSable Lake Shore Drive, then resume their normal route, due to the crash, CTA said.

Northbound buses are not affected.

CTA asked riders to allow extra travel time.
