Tornado touched down northwest of Phoenix, National Weather Service confirms

  • November 24, 2025

WICKENBURG, AZ (AZFamily) — The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed on Monday that a weak tornado touched down northwest of Phoenix in Maricopa County last week.

The tornado was reported near Forepaugh, a small community near Wickenburg, last Tuesday, Nov. 18. The short-lived twister has a preliminary rating of EF-O, the lowest rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with wind speeds estimated at 80-85 miles per hour.

The NWS says that the storm damaged property near U.S. Highway 60, including an overturned RV trailer. No injuries were reported.

We can confirm that a weak, short-lived tornado touched down near Forepaugh, AZ last Tuesday November 18th. The preliminary rating is EF-0 with maximum wind speeds up to 80-85 mph. Powerful storms rolled through the Phoenix area last Tuesday, leaving behind damage in the West Valley, including a collapsed roof at Desert Sky Mall. First responders also conducted multiple water rescues that day, but one man died after being swept away in flash flooding in Cordes Lakes.

While tornadoes in Arizona are not common, they are not unheard of. Most of the time, they are weaker varieties like the one that struck Forepaugh.

But as shown by the damage, even weak tornadoes can be dangerous. In November of 2024, a tornado warning was issued east of Payson.
