CHICAGO (WLS) — Six people are in custody after a man experiencing homelessness was stabbed to death outside of a downtown restaurant on Sunday morning, officials said.

Chicago police said the man was found unresponsive in the Loop’s 200-block of South Wabash Avenue around 7:20 a.m. Sunday. What led up to the stabbing was not immediately clear.

The victim, who suffered an apparent puncture wound to his body, was transported to Northwestern Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His identity was not immediately released.

On Monday, police confirmed that six people are in custody, and charges are pending.

Cook County Crime Stoppers said it appears the man may have been experiencing homelessness. They are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

“This is a senseless loss of life,” a statement from Paul Rutherford, Executive Director of Cook County Crime Stoppers, read in part. “We are deeply committed to supporting law enforcement and the community in bringing justice for this individual.”
