The body found Monday in the San Antonio River downtown has been identified as 21-year-old Zion Cook, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Police responded after receiving a report of a body in the water along the River Walk. Cook’s body was recovered around 12:17 p.m. Monday, near the 100 block of Villita Street, just east of the Bexar County Courthouse.
Cook had been reported missing by his family two days earlier, on June 28. According to the incident report, his family told officers they last saw or heard from him that day and grew concerned when he stopped answering his phone — something they said was unusual for him.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body and has not yet determined the cause or manner of death. The office said those findings could take days or weeks, depending on the type of testing and reports being conducted.
San Antonio police say the investigation remains ongoing.
