PHOENIX — A real estate developer based in Texas recently secured the finances needed to complete a sports academy and hotel in Phoenix, which had its construction paused, according to a Monday release.

SSS Partners, which took over the dual project in 2023, closed on the land located at the Interstate 17 and Sonoran Desert Drive for $183 million and said it now has an estimated completion date of August 2026.

It had already been about 50% complete before being in “limbo for six years.”

The sports academy, to be known as SSS Sports Academy, will take up 17.5 acres and offer an 181,000-square-foot multi-use complex and arena for those in grades nine through 12. The facilities will include a full-size gymnasium and several fields to host tournaments and provide athletic training for hockey, basketball, volleyball, soccer and pickleball.

There will also be locker rooms, sauna and cold rooms, an indoor golf simulator and a multi-purpose space for events.

The connected hotel, Fire N Ice Hotel, will offer 96 rooms in its 60,000 square feet of space for visitors and tournament goers alike. It will include working lounges, a restaurant and bar, kitchenettes and a guest laundry room.

Shubham Pandey, principal of SSS Partners, said the resumed project will give north Phoenix a deserved “showpiece.”

“This campus pairs cutting-edge facilities with collegiate-caliber training and college-prep academics — plus subsidized enrollment options for Phoenix and Arizona families,” Pandey said. “It’s where elite aspirations meet everyday community access.”

The builder of the project is Canyon Building & Design of Chandler.
