SAN ANTONIO – Well, it’s the Super Bowl for TSA agents as the Thanksgiving travel period has begun, and a record number of people are expected to travel this year.
According to AAA, San Antonio will be among the most visited destinations in Texas, so travelers should keep that in mind if they plan to be on the move this week. AAA forecasts a record-setting holiday stretch between now and Monday. Here in San Antonio, as many as 400,000 people are expected to pass through.

The company also projects that almost 82 million travelers will venture at least 50 miles from home, potentially breaking last year’s record.
“In 2025, we’ve seen eight of the top 10 busiest days in TSA history. We’ll probably get a ninth and a tenth when this weekend comes and goes,” said Pete Muntean, aviation and transportation reporter.
AAA predicts that nearly 90 percent of travelers will drive, about six million will fly, and fewer than half that will choose other forms of transportation. The FAA also expects today to have the most flights of this holiday period.
Whether flying or driving this week, travelers are advised to be prepared, get to the airport early to avoid disruptions, and expect heavier traffic on the roads.
