Police say a Putnam County Sheriff’s officer was hit by a vehicle during an investigation in Southeast, leading to what officials called an officer-involved shooting on Monday, Nov. 24.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said officers were conducting an investigation on Sodom Road in Southeast at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday when a suspect’s vehicle allegedly attempted to flee the scene and struck an officer at the Henry Van Motel.

Police say the officer who was struck by the vehicle then discharged their firearm, which hit the suspect and caused a gunshot wound.

The suspect and injured police officer were transported to separate hospitals.

New York State Police are conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
