CHICAGO — A Chicago chiropractor convicted in a health care fraud scheme will spend more than five years in federal prison.
48-year-old Clarence Brown III, who owned and operated Dr. CB3 Wellness and Apex Integrated Medical Center, Ltd., both in the West Loop, was convicted on nine counts of health care fraud back in April of 2024, following a two-week trial in U.S. District Court in Chicago, according to Andrew Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.

Between 2016 and 2020, prosecutors said Brown submitted more than 6,000 fraudulent claims to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois for services that he knew were not provided to patients. Some of the services were purportedly provided during periods when Brown was not even in the state.
According to prosecutors, in order to support his fraudulent claims, Brown prepared false medical records and other documents.

In total, Brown defrauded BCBS out of nearly $2.1 million. Prosecutors said he then used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle, which included international vacations and shopping at luxury stores.
Finally, on Nov. 19, Brown was sentenced to five years and ten months in federal prison. He was also ordered to pay $2,088,884 in restitution to BCBS.
Brown’s sentence was handed down by District Judge John Kness.
