PHOENIX – A dog perished in a house fire near Shaw Butte in north Phoenix on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Firefighters were dispatched to a townhouse in the area of 19th Avenue and Cactus Road around 10:15 a.m. and found smoke coming from the roof, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Crews who were making sure the house was clear of potential occupants found a dog inside. They tried to revive the pet with a Fido Bag but were unsuccessful.

Firefighters controlled and extinguished the blaze by deploying hose lines inside and cutting holes in the roof to let the smoke out.

One person was displaced by the fire. The cause is under investigation.

It was the second time this week a pet perished in a north Phoenix house fire.

One dog died while others were able to escape a burning home near Seventh Street and the Loop 101 Pima Freeway on Monday.
