An 18-year-old was shot and killed Saturday night while trying to break up a fight between two men at the Burger King where he was working in Jacksonville, according to reports obtained by WJXT. Officers responded to a shooting at the fast-food restaurant to find two men with gunshot wounds, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies said the incident began just after 8:30 p.m. when Dawud Burritt, 28, walked into the restaurant and got into an argument with another man, Ray Cummings, one of the victims.The argument escalated into a physical altercation. At that point, 18-year-old Matthew Jackson tried to intervene and break up the fight. Burritt then pulled out a gun, causing everyone to flee, according to the reports. Witnesses reported hearing two shots and seeing Burritt run out of the Burger King. Investigators found Jackson dead at the scene, and Cummings was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. By Sunday, JSO announced Burritt’s arrest in connection with the shooting.Burritt faces two counts of second-degree murder and one count of armed burglary.According to CNN, a close family friend was supposed to pick Jackson up from the airport for Thanksgiving. She described him as like another son to her.Jackson’s mother said he was a senior at Riverside High School and planned to join the Marines after graduation.
