A stolen ornament taken from the Sundance Square Christmas tree was returned early Wednesday morning, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.

Early Wednesday, around 2:30 a.m., an anonymous person on a motorcycle drove up on the sidewalk around Sundance Square Plaza and handed the ornament off to a passerby, according to a Sundance Square spokesperson.

The person asked the passerby to return it to the Sundance Square security team.

The ornament created by Arely Morales was a sentimental piece for the artist. Morales had painted the ornament in memory of her beloved cat.

The piece was stolen around 1 a.m. on Sunday. A woman was seen on camera jumping out of a dark gray SUV and stealing Morales’ ornament from the tree and taking off with it.

After the ornament’s safe return, Morales said

“Feeling so happy we’ll get a chance to see it again. Thanks to everyone in the community for all the love and support you’ve given us, and for helping us get to this point. And to the person who took it, thanks for bringing it back! I can imagine it wasn’t an easy decision, but I sincerely appreciate it,” Morales said after the ornament’s safe return.
